Abstract

Background: 

The purpose of the study is to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices towards COVID-19 vaccination in Lajopi parish, Adjumani district.

Methodology:

The study employed a cross-sectional study design with simple random sampling as the sampling technique. Data was collected on a sample size of 50 respondents using interview guides and a questionnaire as data collection tools; analysis was done manually using tally sheets, pens, and paper, entered in an Excel computer program; presented in tables and figures; and then interpreted.

Results: 

(76%) of the respondents had ever heard about covid 19,(56%) of respondents heard about covid 19 from the media, 38% knew how to prevent the spread of covid 19 to others, (50%) of respondents knew elderly people were entitled to be vaccinated and 52% knew cough as a sign and symptom of covid 19.

(64%) of the respondents responded that covid-19 vaccine has a health problem in their area, (60%) had a poor attitude about covid-19 vaccine being associated with narcolepsy, (86%) of respondents were not willing to get the COVID-19 vaccine

Most (58%) of the respondents responded that they had never gone for covid-19 vaccine, (52%) of the respondents feared the side effects as a reason as to why they were not vaccinated, (48%) of the respondents practiced frequent hand washing as a way of preventing the spread of covid 19, (66%) of the respondents reported that they didn’t get enough health education on covid 19vaccination,

Conclusion: 

Participants had inadequate knowledge of COVID-19 19vaccination with unattractive attitudes and practices since very few of the respondents were willing to be vaccinated and complete all the doses.

Recommendation:

Health workers in Adjumani district, Lajopi parish should continuously sensitize and encourage its population to continuously go for vaccination to help rule out poor perceptions about Covid-19.
